The Malayalam film industry woke up to tragic news today on Thursday, March 2026 after reports confirmed the death of former child actor Hari Murali. He was just 27. Hari Murali, who many Malayali audiences remember from early 2000s films, was found dead at his residence in Annoor near Payyannur in Kerala.
The news has left fans and members of the film industry stunned, especially those who recall him as a familiar face from several popular Malayalam films during his childhood. Authorities are currently looking into the circumstances surrounding his death. The exact cause has not yet been officially confirmed.
Found Dead At His Payyannur Residence
According to reports, Hari Murali was found dead at his home in Annoor in the Payyannur area of Kannur district on March 12, 2026. Local police have begun an investigation into the incident. While some reports have suggested that he may have been found hanging inside the house, officials have not released a final statement confirming the cause of death yet. His body was later shifted to a hospital in the region for further procedures.
Hari Murali, Son Of A Theatre Artist
Hari Murali came from a family connected to the performing arts. He was the son of theatre and film actor K. U. Murali and Prasanna Murali. His father has been a well-known presence in Kerala's theatre circuit for many years. Hari also has a brother named Sreemurali. Growing up around theatre and cinema naturally led him to step in front of the camera at a very young age.
Started Acting As A Child
Hari Murali began appearing on screen when he was only four years old, first working in television before moving into films. He made his film debut in the 2004 Malayalam movie 'Rasikan', directed by Lal Jose and starring Dileep. The film helped introduce him to a wider audience. As a child actor, Murali went on to appear in several Malayalam films in the years that followed.
Films He Appeared In
During the peak of his child acting career, Hari Murali featured in a number of notable Malayalam films, including:
- 'Annan Thampi', starring Mammootty
- 'Madambi'
- 'Pattanathil Bhootham'
- 'Don'
Years later, he also appeared in 'Amar Akbar Anthony', where he played the younger brother of the character portrayed by Prithviraj Sukumaran. Altogether, he acted in around a dozen Malayalam films before stepping away from acting.
Shifted To VFX Work Later
After his early acting years, Hari Murali gradually moved away from appearing on screen. Instead, he worked behind the scenes as a VFX artist, contributing to film projects through visual effects work. Friends and industry acquaintances say he remained connected to the film world even after stepping away from acting.
A Loss That Has Shocked Fans
For many Malayali viewers who grew up watching early 2000s Malayalam films, Hari Murali was one of those familiar child actors whose face appeared across several memorable movies. His sudden death at just 27 has left many in the film community processing the news with disbelief.
As the investigation continues, colleagues and fans have begun sharing their condolences and memories of the young actor who started his journey in cinema at a very early age. Further details about the circumstances surrounding his death are expected once authorities release an official statement.
